Memorable Heart's day 2010 - "Forever"

It was really a long long valentine’s day for me and alvin…

I was a bit surprised that my bf was really sweet to me since the start of the love month. Early month of February 2010, I and my boyfriend Alvin went to a mall and we saw some jewelries, he pointed a ring and asked me if that ring looks great. We keep on and stare at the others. After that, we went ahead to pay his bills. After 3 days he asked me to give him the card from a mall, and I asked him why, he had enough reason he told me he’s buying something and he needs the card for the points, so I hand it to him. At the back of my mind there’s a question popped instantly, is he buying there the ring? I just kept it to myself since it was just the first hint. I think it’s because of the woman instinct.

The week of heart’s day, after work I went to my bf’s office just a floor above mine, to my surprise I saw my officemate Even at his table and they were talking, I asked them “o, bat ka nandito?”, Even told me that she’s just there to ask something about the MRF process. In that moment the 3^rd hint was made which I kept again to myself. February 9, 2010 we are talking about our date for V-day and he asked me if the bar we went for our V-day date a year ago is okay with me, I told him it’s nice so we agreed that we’re gonna go with that same place, and the date was set, February 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm.

February 12, 2010 lunch time I asked my boyfriend what valentine gift he would wanted me to give him on the 14^th, he told me nothing. That same day in the afternoon our friend which Even happened to be our officemate asked me to come with our other officemates (ate Sha, kuya Aldrin, ate Nitz, Cory, Even and Ren) at Riverbanks for a group date on February 13, 2010. This will be our valentine’s date since they don’t have a date with their boyfriends they’ve decided to organize a group date. In my surprise I know Even very well that she’s not a kind of person who will ask everybody to come to a place, that became my 5^th hint. Since me and my boyfriend Alvin My boyfriend also told me on the phone that we are going to riverbanks with our friends. will go to the same place as my officemates I’ve decided to go with them.

In that afternoon, I was thinking what will be the best gift to give to my bf. At around 6:00 pm, I decided to go to a bookstore near our office with my officemates who happened to be my friends. While we were looking and reading some cards one of my friends told me that I should get the card that indicated something like “for my husband”. That time I was getting a 4^th hint, well I never entertain any thoughts or something so I still looked for a card which could symbolize something with me and Alvin. I got a card which has a drawing of a film reel since we loved watching movies because we really enjoyed watching movies together but sometimes we end up watching in his laptop and not in the big screen (ha ha ha), then I bought a stuffed toy tiger since 2010 is his year sign from Chinese calendar, those stuffs don’t cost me a lot. After I’ve got those from the bookstore, I went back to my office and wrote something to the card and then I thought that since the card has a film reel drawing why not I add a sound track of the film?, so I decided to look for the lyrics of “Forever” song by Chris Brown and I attached it since I loved the song very much in acoustic version sang by Princess Velasco which my boyfriend got a CD for me and it’s a surprise! After printing the lyrics, I immediately wrapped the stuffs I’ve got from the bookstore and kept it in my office cabinet for the next day.

The night we went home, my boyfriend told me that he would want me to sing for him on stage in the restaurant bar in Marikina which named bonfire. We know the place since we’ve been there last year valentine’s day, we already had a valentine’s date in that place so he’s insisting that I will sing for him and that was his only wish for valentine’s day for me. I really don’t mind at first what he told me, so I told him that if he wanted me to sing in that place I want him to dance for me while I’m singing but that’s only a joke for me. Until I got home, we talked at the phone and he keeps on telling me that he wants me to sing for our date, well since I was born a not too serious type I keep on joking with him and we both laugh.

February 13, 2010 it’s a Saturday, early in the morning I went to school to teach my students 8:00-11:00am. After the class I immediately went to DLSU-Manila because we (employees) have activity for Coop and I need to register before lunch to get Php 500.00 as one of the early birds. It’s turning 12:00nn, I was still waiting for Alvin to arrive, and he arrived with his sweaty shirt while he’s running for the registration. We went at SDA to take our lunch, I went to my office and got my gift for my bf, then I went back to their office to give him my gift. He was so happy to see my gift for him, while he was reading the card he was smiling. After he saw the card he noticed the lyrics I attached and he told me that this is the song you will sing later, you are very prepared for our date, well it was a joke I know. That time I was writing at my diary the hints that I’ve noticed in the past few days.

3:00 pm that day at DLSU, I was with my friend Ruth who’s very close to me since I started working at CSB I’ve got a chance to talk to her while we were going back to our seat from the washroom. I told my friend that I was having this weird feeling about the people around me at SDA (I’m talking about my friends at the office), Ruth asked me why and I told her that I’ve got a lot of hints and there’s something will gonna happen this day, she immediately smiled and told me that I think kuya Abs will propose to you tonight. A big smile from me, and I told her that I don’t know what I’m going to do, I’m so scared and at the same time, happy but still I’m not sure if that was really what we are thinking. Ruth hugged me so tight and told me that she’s very much happy for me and Alvin.

5:00 pm the activity was over but we are still waiting for our other office mates to arrive so that we can move to Marikina. While we we’re waiting, Alvin told me that he will take a smoke outside and he will wait to ate Sha, so he went out. Ren and I went to the waiting area of DLSU. It’s about an hour ago since Alvin went out, I’m looking for him but he’s not there. Then, he arrived with bouquet of white and orange roses and was arranged very nice and cute. I’m very very happy to received that, and I was so proud that my bf gave me flowers, he never forgotten the precious heart’s day. After a while, our friends arrived and we were ready to go for our group v-day date. While we were walking Even asked me what gift Alvin gave me, I told him the flowers, and then the other hint came out to her, she told me that “malay mo hindi lang yan ang gift niya sayo, meron pa iba mamaya?”. I was so scared to admit that I have hints with what she is talking about, I just smiled and in denial.

At about 7:00 pm we arrived at the riverbanks and the bar is about to open. We ordered dinner and after that the light drinks arrived. While the evening is going deeper, Alvin asked me to sing the song with the band. I was really hesitant, very very hesitant. He already talked to the band if they know to hit the “Forever” song and the band said no. Alvin got back to our table and told me that the band can’t play that song, so he asked me to pick another song. I was not prepared, really not prepared that night because all I know Alvin is just joking with me, but it came to a point that it was the 2^nd round of the band and I'm still not singing. Alvin was very mad at me and he is not talking to me already. In my part, I don’t want to ruin that date with him and with my friends because I know that, that date is very special to us. I told Alvin that I don’t want the way he is doing to me, I told him that I will sing now and he told me that “wag na, diba kanina ka pa pinapa kanta, tapos na ko mamilit, ayaw ko na kinukulit ako” I told him that “e di ko na alam yung ibang song ng band nakakahiya pag kumanta ako tapos di ko naman alam ang dami pang tao, sorry na, sige na kakanta na ko para di ka na magalit”. I asked ate Sha to help me convince the band to try to play the song I wanted, and good thing that the guitarist of the band tried and helped me. I was pleading help with the guitarist and he gave his helping hand, and asked me to sing some of the song for him to try it on his guitar, lucky me, thanks to the guitarist and the band.

After awhile the band called my name as a jammer, I took the risk even I’m not that so familiar to sing the song, I was holding the lyrics while I’m on the stage with my heart pumping and my hands are shaking. I can't believed that after a long time of my life, I'm singing and performing again in front of many people. While I’m singing at exactly 11:21 pm, ate Sha and kuya Aldrin was the one taking the photos of me (like paparazzi). While I’m in the middle of the song I was really astounded why Alvin (carrying the bouquet) and all of my friends are standing and they are all staring and listening to me, at the back of my mind I was thinking that they are just proud of me (he he he).

After a while as I finished singing, at 11:25 pm Alvin went up on the stage and grabbed the microphone to the other band member and kissed me, gave me the bouquet not talking, he got something from his pocket and opened the red heart-shaped box, inside is a diamond white-gold ring and knelt in front of me and asked me “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”, I was really shocked I don’t know what will I do at that moment, my heart pumped very very very fast, I can’t speak, I told him “totoo ba yan?” what I mean is “all that is happening right now is it true?”. I can’t believe he will do that in front of a lot of people. Where he got he’s guts? After a while, while looking at him he asked me again without a microphone “ano na ang sagot mo dali, (with his eyes going bigger), nang lilit na ko ditto”. I was laughing to hear that I can’t seem to be teary eyed because of what I heard from him, more laughs came from me and at 11:26 pm I told him, “YES, of course I WILL MARRY YOU”. I told him to stand up and he took my left hand to place the ring on my finger, the ring doesn’t fit my ring finger, but it was alright. Then we kissed again. While everything was happening all the people round the bar are yelling and cheering they are seemed very happy for us and they were so “kilig” with us. That night we became instant celeb. Everybody in the bar knows our name and the band are kept on mentioning us. There even a jammer also who sang faithfully by journey dedicated to us, he even took us pictures and he was really proud of what Alvin did that night. Until we are about to gone home the band still congratulate us and other people inside the bar. While we were walking there are some people who talked to us that we are very sweet and they told us they are so “kilig” to us, they told us that, that were their first time to saw someone who proposed, they are so very happy for us.

Going home, while on the road I and Alvin took a bus going to Sucat, he was teasing me that I was having a big-big smile on my face. Well, that was true because I felt so loved and deserving of what I’m having with the one I love. We were talking about what happened, he told me that if I didn’t sang, the proposal will never happened that night, he don’t have plan B, it’s just good thing for him he won me over, and of course “hindi ko siya MATIIS” never! He also told me that if the Palawan trip we are planning happened that February month, maybe he proposed to me to that paradise place.

But still I was very very much happy that night. We we’re ENGAGED at last! :)
